Teaching and Learning Technologies

CAT provides services related to instructional media and instructional technology. The purpose of the tools and services offered are to use technology, when it makes sense, to augment and facilitate the teaching and learning that happen both inside and outside the physical classroom.

BruinCast provides video and audio-only recording of undergraduate lectures for streaming online. With 76 classrooms around campus equipped for some form of recording — including every general assignment classroom with a capacity of 60 or more — BruinCast can meet your needs in a variety of ways.

Common Collaboration and Learning Environment

To a growing number of faculty and students, the CCLE is their Course Management System (CMS). Often referred to as the 'CCLE Shared System', this hybrid service is operated by the CCLE Home, a unit within CAT that coordinates the CCLE effort, in partnership with school and divisional IT staff.

Instructional Media Collections and Services

The Instructional Media Collections & Services (IMCS) primarily serves faculty and departmental personnel who use media in the classroom. The IMCS houses and maintains several department and study center collections and features an ever growing collection of DVDs, videotapes, laserdiscs, and films.

Instructional Media Lab

The Instructional Media Lab provides access to course-related materials for self-study, group instruction or research. The Media Lab enables faculty to incorporate media into the curriculum beyond using limited classroom hours and offers students an opportunity to learn at their own pace, with the flexibility of studying at times convenient to their individual schedules.

Instructional Media Production

Instructional Media Production (IMP) supports all aspects of effective presentation, with a staff of media professionals and a state-of-the-art technical facility. Each project receives in-depth consultation to develop a specifically tailored and comprehensive communication strategy.

Online Course Development

In response to an increase in faculty interest with online and hybrid course development, CAT has developed resources to help guide individuals and departments interested in learning more or experimenting in this rapidly changing arena.
