2019 New Faculty Teaching Engagement
Please join us at the second annual New Faculty Teaching Engagement on Friday, September 20th at the Luskin Conference Center.
Our program welcomes all faculty and lecturers new to UCLA, whether they have teaching experience elsewhere, teaching experience as a graduate student only, or very limited teaching experience.
The goal of the program is to better prepare new faculty and lecturers to teach at UCLA. Participants will be introduced to student-centered teaching practices to help them create inclusive classrooms that will engage students and optimize learning. They will also be presented with the demographics of UCLA students and aspects of teaching at UCLA, as they may differ from those at other institutions.
Short faculty talks followed by discussion will allow participants to learn about techniques used in UCLA classrooms and to reflect on how they can adapt these strategies to their own courses.
In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to interact with campus partners who provide teaching support for faculty. Participants will choose several different partners to talk to in round-table formats, and will be provided with a take-home directory of all partners in attendance.
We would love for you to join us to discuss teaching at UCLA. We hope you will be able to join us for part, if not all, of the day and we hope that you will find the NFTE as “nifty” as we do.
